Alumni, friends help Journalism Advisory Council
reach 2008-09 fund-raising goal of $50,000

The gifts came in amounts large, small and in-between. But all totaled, they enabled the School of Journalism Advisory Council to surpass its fund-raising goal and raise $51,154!

The School of Journalism had announced in late June that it needed $1,819 to reach its fund-raising goal of $50,000. Alumni Jon and Peggy Rowley stepped in and offered to write a check for $909 if alumni could donate the other $909. And alumni and friends responded:
• $200 from a California couple, both graduates of the School of Journalism;
• $150 from a member of the Journalism Advisory Council with this comment -- "I'm hoping you can pick up the other four bucks someplace else."
• And $154 exactly from a former journalism department head

Jacqueline Sharkey, director of the School of Journalism, said she's been touched by the alumni response to the campaign.

"In this economy, we're all hurting," said Sharkey. "Yet when we asked alumni if they could dig a little deeper, they did. That shows us how much they value the education and experience they gained here. I'm truly grateful."
