Applications being accepted for Gilman Scholarship
The School of Journalism is accepting applications for the new Richard Gilman Endowed Scholarship in Journalism, a $2,000 annual scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be a journalism major entering the first or second semester of her/his junior year in Fall 2009 and have two more years left at the UA. The student likely would be of sophomore standing now (spring 2009). This is a $2,000 scholarship to be awarded to one student entering her/his junior year. If the student remains in good academic standing, the scholarship will be renewed for his/her senior year. This is a two-year, $2,000 per year scholarship.
Highest consideration will be given to an academically gifted student whose published work (print or online) shows demonstrated work outside the academic arena in the field of journalism. Financial need is not a consideration. Graduate students are not eligible.
The scholarship is named for Richard Gilman, a 1972 UA School of Journalism alumnus and former editor and publisher of the Boston Globe.
The winner of the Gilman Scholarship will be announced at the 2009 Just Desserts ceremony May 7. The scholarship will be disbursed in Fall 2009.
To apply, fill out the School of Journalism’s scholarship application form, which may be downloaded here or picked up in the journalism main office, Room 334. Deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, March 27.
