Looking for something to do this summer? The University of Arizona Journalism Diversity Workshop for Arizona High School Students will take place June 6-17 on the UA campus. Students will learn how to produce a newspaper, video and a blog using equipment in our publication and photojournalism labs. They will gain experience in news writing, reporting, editing, digital design, broadcast news and photojournalism techniques. They’ll also learn about ethics and media law.
** Note: The deadline to apply for the University of Arizona Journalism Diversity Workshop for Arizona High School Students has been extended to May 8.
Who is eligible?
We are seeking Arizona students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall and who show a serious interest in journalism and in pursuing higher education. Upcoming sophomores and graduating seniors will be considered. We are looking for students interested in all types of journalism: print, online and visual (video news and photojournalism).
What about expenses?
Registration and dorm fees are provided by the program, and on-campus dorm rooms will be provided for out-of-town students. Students will be responsible for their meals.
How do I apply?
Interested students should submit an application accompanied by a recent photograph, short essay about why they are interested in going into journalism, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, adviser, administrator or mentor and three writing samples (they do not have to be published news articles; essays or other class assignments are acceptable). Essays that use specific examples to illustrate central points are generally stronger. The recommendation letter may also be submitted via e-mail to John deDios. Application forms are available here.
