Panel looks at Iran, Iraq and the U.S.

A UA journalism professor will be among the panelists at a public forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the Social Sciences Building Room 100.

Maggy Zanger, an associate professor of practice, is one of five experts comprising the panel, which will be moderated by Ann Betteridge, head of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. Zanger conducted media research in Iraq in 2001 and 2002 and lived there from 2003 to 2005, reporting and running a journalism training program for Iraqis. She returned to Iraq in August for several weeks. She will discuss the Kurdish role and perspective in shifting regional dynamics.

Other panelists are Charles D. Smith, a specialist in modern Middle East history in the Department of Near Eastern Studies; Richard E. Eaton, a professor of history specializing in the social and cultural history of South Asia and the Islamic world; Kamran Talattof, a professor of Near Eastern Studies who published on a variety of topics including Persian literature, Iranian culture, gender, and ideology; and David Dunford, retired career Foreign Service Officer and former U.S. ambassador to Oman.
