Faculty Kudos - Week of Jan. 21, 2008Celeste González de Bustamante presented a paper titled "Televising Mexican Femininity: Shaping and Shapely Identity in the 1950s" at the annual American Historical Association conference in Washington, D.C., Jan. 3-6. The paper was part of a panel she organized for the Conference on Latin American History. The session was titled, "Imagining Mexican Feminism in the Twentieth Century."Kevin R. Kemper was second author on a paper titled "Government speech in Ireland, Australia and the U.S.A.: Evolving Definitions Within Constitutional Frameworks" that will be presented at the Communication Law and Policy Division of the International Communication Association's conference in Montreal, Quebec, in May. Co-authors were Edward L. Carter and James C. Phillips (Brigham Young University). Elena C. Stauffer, who teaches editing, wrote a guest opinion about custody orders and the safety of children for the Jan. 23 edition of the Tucson Citizen. The World Without Us, the best-selling book by Alan Weisman, has been named a finalist in the non-fiction category for the National Book Critics prize. It's the latest in a series of kudos the book has earned in the new year. Barnes & Noble named The World Without Us its number one non-fiction pick for 2007. Mother Jones dubbed The World Without Us one of its top 2007 Media Picks. Read the review. And the Web site AlterNet included The World Without Us in its feature on "Books that will change the world."
