Faculty Kudos - Week of Jan. 29, 2007Celeste González de Bustamante presented a paper at the annual Rocky Mountain Council on Latin American Studies conference Jan. 27. The title of the paper is: "A Case of Convergence and Contradiction: El Alunizaje (The Lunar Landing) as Reported on Mexican Television News, 1969." Kevin R. Kemper's doctoral dissertation has been nominated for the 2007 Margaret A. Blanchard Doctoral Dissertation Prize from the American Journalism Historians Association. His dissertation, defended in spring 2006 at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, is "William Apess, Elias Boudinot, and Samuel Cornish: Native Americans and African- Americans Looking for Freedom of Expression, Representation, and Rhetorical Sovereignty During the Age of Jackson." Winners will be announced before the 2007 AJHA Annual Convention, which will be Oct. 10-13 in Richmond, Va. Susan Knight was invited to join a team of University of Arizona faculty and staff attending the conference "Accessing Alliances: Disability Studies Across the Curriculum" in Washington, D.C., Feb. 22-23. Maggy Zanger and the Study Cairo program she is leading this summer were featured in the February 2007 issue of ANAGrams, the official publication of Arizona Newspapers Association. Djamila Grossman, selected this spring to serve as the department's Don Bolles fellow, was featured in the same issue.
