Faculty Kudos - Week of Oct. 15, 2007

Bruce D. Itule will speak about "Avoiding Pitfalls of Plagiarism and Copyright on the Internet" at an Arizona Press Women meeting Oct. 19 in Payson.

Kevin R. Kemper participated in a "Writing Across the Media" workshop on Oct. 11 at the Ifra Newsplex at the University of South Carolina. He learned some of the most up-to-date approaches for incorporating multimedia into a journalism curriculum. The workshop was part of a broader conference, "Convergence and Society: Media Ownership, Control, and Consolidation," where he presented a research paper.

Linda J. Lumsden won the Maurine Beasley Award for Outstanding Paper in Women's History for the third consecutive year at last week's American Journalism Historians Association convention in Richmond, Va., Oct. 11-13. She also was named one of the first four recipients of new AJHA faculty research grants. She will use the $1,250 award to travel to the University of Washington in Seattle to conduct research in its archives of the American radical press, 1900-1920.

Lumsden also was appointed coordinator for research panel proposals for the 2008 convention to be held in Seattle. Finally, the AJHA Board of Directors unanimously voted to hold its 30th annual convention in 2010 in Tucson. About 150 historians of journalism history from across North America are expected to attend the three-day event, which will be hosted by the Department of Journalism.

Maggy Zanger was featured in a story on "Arizona Illustrated" Oct. 17 to promote her participation in an upcoming panel on Iraq, Iran, and the U.S. Watch the report online. The forum -- Iraq, Iran and the US: Problems and Perspectives -- will take place Monday, October 22, 7-9 p.m. in the Social Sciences Building Room 100.
