Faculty Kudos - Week of Oct. 5, 2009

Shahira Fahmy will be part of a panel discussion on “Islam In the News: Bridging the Worlds of Academia and Journalism,” at the Arizona Newspaper Association annual meeting and fall convention in Phoenix Oct.10. Maha Nassar and Scott Lucas, both of Near Eastern Studies) are co-presenters.

Linda Lumsden presented a paper entitled "Striking Images: Visual Rhetoric of the Radical Press, 1908-1917" at the annual American Journalism Historian Association’s convention in Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 7-10. She also moderated a panel called, "The Prism of Identity: The Challenge of Isolating Social Position in Media History." The 2010 AJHA convention will be in Tucson next October.

Alumni Kudos

About 60 people attended a presentation led by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists and UA Journalism alumni Ryan Gabrielson and Paul Giblin Oct. 8 on campus. The pair spent the day lecturing in several journalism classes and attended a reception with journalism students, faculty, staff and emeriti faculty.
