Faculty Kudos - Week of Feb. 25, 2008
Linda Lumsden gave a presentation on World War I censorship to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Green Valley on Feb. 15.Mort Rosenblum had a piece he wrote about torture posted on Huffingtonpost Feb. 15. Read it here. Rosenblum and Alan Weisman were the featured speakers at a panel discussion Feb. 27 at the Student Union. The talk, called "Two Reporters, Two Hundred Countries, But Only One Planet," was sponsored by the journalism department. Rosenblum will speak at 3 p.m. March 8 at the Museum of Contemporary Art on his latest book, Escaping Plato's Cave: How America's Blindness to the Rest of the World Threatens Our Survival. The event will take place at MOCA on The Plaza, 149 N. Stone (downtown next to the Main Library). Admission is free.
Jacqueline Sharkey was one of the featured speakers at a celebration Feb. 22 honoring the 100th anniversary of the UA Libraries' selection as a federal depository. The Federal Depository Library Program was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its government's information. Journalism faculty Celeste González de Bustamante and Kim Newton also attended, and David Cuillier was interviewed for a PowerPoint presentation about the importance of public access to government records, which was shown during the event.
Elena Chabolla Stauffer wrote a story on the benefits of minority recruiting for The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.

Eric Schwartz spent part of February in Boston covering the American Association for the Advancement of Science General Meeting. He's the NASA Space Grant intern at the Arizona Daily Star. Read his Feb. 17 article here.
