Faculty Kudos – Week of March 30, 2009
A research paper by David Cuillier appeared in the January issue of the Journal of Mass Media Ethics. The article, titled "Mortality Morality: Effect of death thoughts on journalism students' attitudes toward relativism, idealism, and ethics," was awarded the top faculty paper prize for the media ethics division at the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication annual conference in August 2008.
Shahira Fahmy presented "Gatekeeping Decisions: A Comparative Visual Analysis of Hurricane Katrina In U.S. Newspapers And Wire Services" at the UA Communication Department colloquia series in March. She also was selected to be the guest editor for "Images of Conflict," a special issue of the Sage journal Media, War & Conflict scheduled to appear in April 2010. A paper she co-wrote with J. Zhang, "Color revolutions in colored lenses: A Comparative Analysis of U.S. and Russian Press Coverage of Political Movements in Ukraine, Belarus and Uzbekistan" was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Communication.
