Faculty Kudos Week of April 2, 2007

Lisa Button and Terry Wimmer directed the photo selection and layout for the "One Day at the UA" photo project. The assignment asked Jour 205 students to shoot people, things and events around campus for an entire day. The photos will run in an upcoming issue of the Arizona Daily Wildcat. All J205 classes participated.

David Cuillier wrote an article for the Society of Professional Journalists' April issue of Quill magazine on the ethical dilemmas in developing sources, titled "Getting to the source: Developing Reporter-Source Relationships Without Becoming Chums." He also wrote an article for the edition on public records that reporters can use for backgrounding individuals.

Kevin R. Kemper will participate in Access Tucson's annual "Building Free Speech" live panel discussion Thursday, April 12, at 6 p.m. The topic is "Protecting the Future of Media Democracy." Other panel members are: Michael Chihak, editor/publisher of the Tucson Citizen; Karin Uhlich, Tucson City Council Member, Ward 3; and Michael Mulcahy, an Arizona-based film and video maker whose work focuses on the complex intersection of private choices within the realm of public society. The moderator is Cynthia Dickstein, a freelance writer published most frequently in the Boston Globe. The program will be broadcast on Cox Cable Cannel 99 and Comcast Channel 74.

Susan Knight will attend the Journalism Educators Symposium sponsored by the Gannett Company Inc. in McLean, Va., April 11-12. The conference brings together leaders in journalism education to discuss cross-platform approaches to news and information.

Linda Lumsden presented a paper entitled "The Chicago Defender Rides the Second Wave: Coverage of the Women's Liberation Movement, 1968-1973," at the Organization of American Historians convention in Minneapolis March 30.
