Faculty Kudos - Week of April 20, 2009

Shahira Fahmy’s article “Color revolutions in colored lenses: A Comparative Analysis of U.S. and Russian Press Coverage of Political Movements in Ukraine, Belarus and Uzbekistan” appears in the International Journal of Communication, 3, 517-539. It was co-written with Juyan Zhang.

Heidi Hopkins won a Continuing Education/Professional Development Scholarship from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. It was presented to her at the April 23 staff luncheon sponsored by the College.

Mort Rosenblum discussed international journalism as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series April 22 at the Arizona Inn. The series is sponsored by the Colleges of Fine Arts, Science and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Kudos to all the faculty and students who took part in the student journalism project entitled "One Day at the U of A" that was published April 23. Students from photojournalism, design and editing classes produced the 16-page tab, which was inserted into the Arizona Daily Wildcat. The project was achieved with the help of Kim Newton, Gawain Douglas, Bruce Itule, Lew Serviss, Lisa Button, John de Dios and Cindy Callahan.

A story on media portrayals of Native Americans that featured Candace Begody, a journalism senior and member of the Navajo community, aired on "Arizona Illustrated" April 21. Watch it here.

Sarah Kezele and Chris Veck, who graduated in December 2008, volunteered at the School of Journalism booth at the National Scholastic Press Association convention held in Phoenix April 16-17.
