Faculty Kudos - Week of June 22, 2009
Celeste González de Bustamante organized a panel and presented a paper at the 28th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 11-14. The panel was titled "Old and New Models in Television News: Reconsidering Inequalities in Mexico, Brazil and Latin America," and the paper she presented for the same panel was titled, "Los primeros noticiarios televisivos (the first television newscasts): a case of dependency and development in Mexico and Latin America."
Kevin R. Kemper was a guest on the local radio show "Tucson in Review," hosted by Chuck Meyer, to discuss the elimination of the print version of the Tucson Citizen. The show is scheduled to air at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 28, on 1290-AM and 99.5 FM.
Terry Wimmer is spending a month this summer as a contributing editor for American City Business Journals, a division of Advance Publications. He is assisting in a content redesign of Portfolio's web site and helping to develop new strategies for reporting on federal stimulus spending.
Student Kudos
Carly Kennedy will pick up a $1,000 check at the Arizona Newspapers Association’s Fall Convention Oct. 10. Kennedy was one of two winners in the state of the 2009 scholarship.
