Mark Evans, editor at TucsonCitizen.com, will help administer a one-year hyperlocal news project funded with a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. TucsonCitizen.com was one of five organizations selected to participate in the Networked Journalism pilot project.

The $45,000 grant includes $20,000 for a grant manager and $25,000 to fund community sites, new online news ventures or citizen journalists. Evans will track and evaluate the program’s effect on newsgathering, presentation, readership, site sales, and other areas. Anthony Gimino, former Tucson Citizen sports columnist and a 1990 UA journalism graduate, will administer the grant. The intention is to focus on sports reporting and blogging.
