Faculty Kudos - Week of Sept. 14, 2009

Several faculty and staff took part in a tour of the School of Journalism for students from Luz Academy in Tucson. Lisa Button spoke to the students about internships and job prospects in journalism, Jay Rochlin allowed students to observe his Border Beat class and Karen Weaver advised students on applying to the UA and about coursework in journalism. Kate Harrison organized the visit.

Linda Lumsden’s article,"Good Mothers with Guns: Framing Black Womanhood in The Black Panther," appears in the Winter 2009 issue of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly.

Martin Rubio was nominated for an Emmy by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Sept. 13. The nomination was for photography in the non-news category for a documentary called “Retablos: Uncovering the Secrets.” Rubio won an Emmy in 2006 for a feature on a UA student and cancer survivor.

A story on Tom Arviso Jr. being named the 2009 recipient of the Zenger Award was featured on the home page of the Native American Journalists Association.
