Faculty Kudos - Week of Sept. 24, 2007

David Cuillier has been appointed to the board for the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona and also has been named the Society of Professional Journalists' Sunshine Chair for Arizona. In both roles, Cuillier will educate and assist citizens and journalists who have questions or difficulties in accessing public records and meetings.

Adjunct faculty and students in the department did well in the Arizona Newspapers Association Better Newspapers Contest Sept. 22 in Scottsdale. Winners were:

-- The Tombstone Epitaph, first place, Departmental News and Copyediting Excellence.
-- Jeanie Bergen, who graduated in May 2007, Tombstone Epitaph, first place, Best News Feature Story; and first place, Best Feature Photo Layout.
-- Jim Nintzel (with Saxon Burns), Tucson Weekly, first place, Best News Story.
-- Stephanie Innes (with Brady McCombs), Arizona Daily Star, first place, Best Sustained Coverage or Series.
-- Sarah Garrecht Gassen, Arizona Daily Star, first place, Best Lifestyle Feature Story.
