Faculty Kudos - Week of Sept. 28, 2009
Kevin R. Kemper was quoted in a Sept. 29 story in the Arizona Daily Wildcat about free speech issues after the arrests of two UA students who wrote messages in chalk on campus to protest budget cuts.
Jeannine Relly was a guest speaker in an Honors Paladins course Sept. 29, which is a transition course for pre-selected freshmen students who are identified as at-risk for retention at the university. Many of the students in the program are the first generation in their families to attend college. Relly, along with other faculty members across campus, was asked to speak with a class about her research and other work at the university.
Jay Rochlin wrote a successful proposal for a Magellan Circle grant from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The grant will enable five students in Rochlin’s Border Beat class to travel to Hermosillo to provide multimedia coverage of an annual volunteer-based cleft palate mission by American surgeons that is sponsored and organized by St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic in Nogales. The students written, photographic, video, and audio reports will be shared on Border Beat. Participating students are: Aleksa Brown, Chris Kelly, Curtis Prendergast, Kristina Stevens and Roxana Vasquez.
