About the Internship Program
Deadline: This program returns on a yearly basis. For Winter/Spring applicants, the application is due Nov. 4, 2019. Apply as early as you can!
The NPR internship program has a rich history. Nearly 10% of our current staff — including Ari Shapiro, Audie Cornish, Guy Raz and many more — were discovered as interns.
From day one, interns at NPR are given real-world, hands-on responsibilities. Working alongside top professionals in the field, interns do meaningful work across a variety of departments at NPR. Qualifications & Requirements
- Students and recent graduates who are intelligent, creative, and curious
- Strong researchers and excellent writers who work well on diverse teams and can also thrive with individual assignments
- Candidates don't need to know everything about NPR or public radio, but it helps to be at least a little familiar. And, of course, it doesn't hurt to love NPR
- Qualified applicants must be current students (undergraduate or graduate degree programs) or have graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship
- Interns must be authorized to work in the United States

Benefits & Compensations
- All interns are paid
- Interns are expected to work full time (40 hours per week)
- NPR does not offer transportation or housing assistance

Washington Intern Student Housing (WISH) locations house interns only. They are furnished, in the historic District, and Metro accessible. Receptions, outings, and professional development events are free to all residents.

You may apply for up to three internships per semester. If you are uploading multiple cover letters, be sure to name each file for the corresponding internship title.
