Slate Washington D.C. Editorial Intern

About the Internship

Candidates for the D.C. editorial internship should be available to work in Slate’s Washington office between 20 and 40 hours per week. (We can schedule hours around classes.) They will tackle a mix of duties, including:

  • Research 
  • assisting with the Dear Prudence live chat
  • Writing for the Slatest and Future Tense verticals.

This internship is paid D.C. minimum wage, currently $14 an hour.

Qualifications & Requirements

An ideal candidate must possess the following:

  • Must be organized
  • Have a proven interest in journalism
  • Familiar with Slate’s style of analysis and opinion
  • Able to work efficiently and without much supervision

  • Aa brief cover letter
  • A résumé
  • A 200-word response to a story from Slate’s Politics section from the past month (this should be a critique of the author’s arguments, not comments on grammar or sentence structure)
  • Three clips

  • Spring (January through April): The deadline is Nov. 1.
  • Summer (May through August): The deadline is Feb. 1.
  • Fall (September through December): The deadline is July 1.
