"Bill" Greer is an associate professor of journalism and the faculty advisor of the Tombstone Epitaph, the local newspaper for the historic city of Tombstone. The biweekly paper is produced by journalism students as a senior capstone project. Greer worked for The Associated Press in the United States and Mexico, and was Texas AP Staffer of the Year. He opened the first AP bureau that covered U.S.-Mexico border affairs. His articles appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and numerous other newspapers. Greer is past president of the Society of Southwestern Authors, the Southern Arizona chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Tucson Press Club and the Arizona AP Editors Association. He also is co-coordinator of the departmentŐs diversity program, responsible for recruiting and retaining minority students. Greer has written one book, A Century of Progress, and recently has published articles involving ethics in photojournalism, and the impact of visual images on public perceptions and policy formation. He also has examined the ways in which violent events such as crimes and wars affect the photographers who cover them. His sabbatical project was a photo documentary on life on the U.S.-Mexico border at the beginning of the 21st century.
