Bruce Itule joined the full-time faculty in August 2007. The 1969 UA journalism graduate spent most of his career at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

At ASU, Itule was a professor of practice and since 2005 held the Weil Professor of Journalism. He joined ASU in 1985, teaching reporting and public affairs reporting as well as mentoring faculty associates in writing courses. Itule also served as director of student media at ASU, overseeing a daily newspaper, television, literary magazine and various other publications.

Before entering academia, Itule held positions at newspapers in Arizona, Minnesota, Illinois and Colorado. He has written or co-written four textbooks, two fiction books and numerous magazine articles. His honors include the 1999 Freedom Forum National Journalism Professor of the Year, a 2002 Arizona Press Club Distinguished Service Award and induction in 2004 into the Arizona Newspapers Association Hall of Fame.

In addition to his UA degree, Itule holds a master's in journalism and history from the University of Colorado. At the UA he teaches Editing and oversees Arizona News Service, which offers readers and media outlets the best journalism being produced by UA journalism students with a specific focus on Southern Arizona and the border region.
