Susan M. Knight is an associate professor of practice and director of undergraduate studies. A reporter and editor for nearly 20 years, Knight focused on public affairs reporting, specializing in education issues, and earned more than two dozen writing awards from state and national press groups and education organizations.
Knight was a Kellogg Fellow in the University of Michigan Journalism Fellows Program, where she focused on the intersection of public policy-making and public affairs reporting. She also has served as a board member for the Education Writers Association.
Knight's articles have appeared in the Arizona Daily Star, the Arizona Republic, Education Week and the Chronicle of Higher Education. She also worked on two alternative weeklies, the Willamette Valley Observer and the Tucson Weekly. Her editing work has included Shelter, a book for the University of Arizona Press on a man's journey out of homelessness.
Knight won the Hugh and Jan Harelson Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000 and 2002 and a Magellan Circle Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Social and Behavioral Science in 2008. In addition to her duties has director of undergraduate studies, she mentors new faculty as the school's "master teacher." Knight is a Faculty Fellow and serves on the University Hearing Board and the University Student Media Board.
Knight earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arizona in journalism.
