Linda Lumsden joined the faculty in August 2006 as an assistant professor. Lumsden had 12 years of experience as a journalist before earning a doctorate at the University of North Carolina. Her graduate studies and dissertation focused on journalism history.

Lumsden, who joins the UA from Western Kentucky University, has written two books on historical topics that have been published by university presses. She will teach journalism history, which will become a required course, and also will develop a course in race, class, and gender. Lumsden also will teach classes in the core skills curriculum.

Lumsden has worked as a reporter, sports editor, features editor, copy editor and arts writer at newspapers in New York, Washington and Connecticut. At Western Kentucky, she coordinated the mass communications program and taught in the graduate program.

Lumsden holds a B.A. in sociology from Central Connecticut State University and a master's from Syracuse University.
