Terry Wimmer joined the faculty in August 2006 as a professor of practice.

Wimmer may be the only academic in the country who has a Ph.D. and was a leader of a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation. The Pulitzer was awarded to the Orange County Register staff for an investigation that uncovered abuses at a fertility clinic.

Wimmer served as the Shott Professor of Journalism at West Virginia University from 2000 to 2006. He taught undergraduate courses in media ethics, open records and media access, journalism history, new media content development, advanced reporting, advanced editing and planning, and research methodologies, and graduate courses in media theory and qualitative methods.

Wimmer holds a clinical appointment to better focus on teaching and professional service. He is the adviser to The Tombstone Epitaph, teaches basic skills courses and advises the school's Society of Professional Journalists chapter. Wimmer will also be helping the school design a new course in investigative reporting.

Wimmer holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from West Virginia University and his Ph.D. in the philosophy of mass communication from the University of North Carolina.
