NavigationThe University of Arizona Department of Journalism

The Cat Scan was launched in January 2006 by 15 students in the Journalism Department's Online Journalism class (Jour 498D), an effort led by Jay Rochlin, adjunct instructor. The course is the fourth capstone offered in the department and gives students exposure to the growing field on online journalism.

The web-based publication features news, features, entertainment, blogs and photos. When students first launched the publication, they did more than supply content; they also grappled with issues of copyright, possible censorship of blogs and whether they could adequately cover hard news.

In Fall 2007, The Cat Scan is focusing its story and blog content on the topic of "Living Green."
