The first member of the Arizona-Afghan Partnership has arrived to the UA School of Journalism to begin work on helping the University of Nangarhar in Jalalabad begin building their own journalism program.

Noorullah (Noor) Dawari arrived Feb. 15. He will serve as translator for the three-year project funded by a $1 million State Department grant. The partnership will bring Nangarhar professors to the UA for two different semesters to work with journalism faculty mentors to hone their teaching skills and to develop syllabi and materials for six specific classes. The courses will form the core of a new journalism department within the Nangarhar University Faculty of Languages and Literature.
