School to launch National Association of Black Journalists chapter April 5

Students, faculty and community members will gather in the UA School of Journalism Thursday, April 5, to celebrate the launch of the student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Jonathan Peck, Tucson Urban League director and CEO,  and Jamar Younger, Arizona Daily Star reporter, will discuss the Trayvon Martin case and larger issues of race and the news media. Guests from the Tucson Southern Arizona Black Chamber of Commerce, TUSD's African American Studies program, and the UA Africana Studies and African American Student Affairs office also will be on hand.

The event is part of the school's Student Clubs Night, which is held every other Thursday for members of the UA student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. in the Marshall Building Room 312 (the student reading room). Free pizza, salad and fruit will be offered.
