Students in the Reporting in the US-Mexico Borderlands class created maps, videos and news features on environmental issues as well as oral histories of residents of Nogales. Their work is published on the class website, EcoChronicleSonora.com. The class was taught by Lisa Button.

Celeste González de Bustamante and Jeannine Relly had their article, "Journalism in times of violence: Social media use by U.S. and Mexican journalists working in northern Mexico," accepted for publication in the academic journal Digital Journalism.
Linda Lumsden published an article entitled "How Independent? An Analysis of GE13 Coverage by Malaysia’s Online News Portals" in the December issue of the Malaysian Journal of Communication.
Kim Newton spent the winter break in India discussing photojournalism and multimedia teaching techniques with Afghan professors during the Afghan Journalism Education Enhancement seminar, a two-week program in New Delhi, India. The seminar was a joint collaboration involving American professors from the UA School of Journalism and College of Communication at the University of Nebraska Omaha. The Afghan faculty members were from Nangahar University and Kabul University.
