KOLD-TV, the CBS affiliate in sunny Tucson, Arizona has an immediate opening for a Newscast Producer. We're looking for a high-energy, creative self-starter who can be a leader. Must understand the concept of an urgent, utility newscast.  Must also understand the difference between telling a good story and avoiding "press release journalism."  Candidates should be willing to take strategic chances, make key decisions, and have a bank of story ideas. Stackers and packers need not apply.

Flexibility and tight writing skills are essential. Must understand the importance of social and digital media and know how to strategically use in newscasts. You will need to have the drive to win the big local stories.

Dear students:


Congratulations on another school year down in the books! There are only a couple new things to report regarding internships that are still open for the summer – they are below.


If you have an internship for the summer and haven’t contacted me, now is the time! Please reach out before May 18 about internships you’ve received.


My summer schedule is a little different from the rest of the year: I’m here through all of June, but off in July, then back Aug. 7. Keep in touch – especially seniors when you get those jobs!


And speaking of jobs --- if you’re still searching, don’t forget 7th Annual Arizona's Career Mixer Wednesday, May 30 in Scottsdale. The Ringer editorial summer internship PAID

The Farmington Daily-Times has an immediate opening for a reporter. The Joseph Rago Memorial Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism PAID

Deadline: May 14. Nine-month internship with the Opinion section of The Wall Street Journal, along with a salary of approximately $5,000/monthly. All details and application instructions at link above.


Rubin Institute Fall Fellowship in Music Criticism PAID

Deadline: May 15. This is a weeklong fellowship in San Francisco in October. It will bring together distinguished classical music journalists, renowned musicians, and aspiring young writers to advance the craft of criticism. Over the first four evenings of the conference, student participants (Fellows) from colleges, universities, and music conservatories around the U.S. will attend performances by the Bay Area's premier ensembles, submitting critical reviews after each concert. The following day, these reviews will be discussed and workshopped by our panel of leading professional critics. On the fifth and final day of the conference, the Fellow that demonstrates the strongest aptitude for written criticism will be awarded the $10,000 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism. There is no fee to apply, and Fellowships are all-expenses paid, including airfare/travel, housing, concert tickets, and meals.


American Quarter Horse Association FALL editorial/social media internship PAID

Deadline: July 1. All details at link above.


The Points Guy Social Media Intern (NYC) PAID (And free travel)

Deadline: May 15. You have to read about it to believe it. They want someone with social media and photography skills and you can’t be afraid to fly. Also, you have to like dogs. This is all over the internet today, so they’ll have a lot of applicants. Go get it.


Fall 2018 Reporting Internship Chronicle of Higher Education PAID ($625/week b/f taxes)

Deadline: June 1 by 9 a.m. Deadline is hard, which means send in your application before June 1! You need to submit a number of things to apply, so see details at link above and get going – know how to put it all in a single PDF, etc. This is a killer internship, and not just because it is one of the best paid. The education beat will be hot forever.


TDG Cycling Video Journalist Travel Internship ALL EXPENSES PAID

Deadline: June 1. Internship starts in September and lasts four months. All info and how to apply at link above.



Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communication Scholarships - $2,500Deadline: June 8. The purpose of the Mass Communications Scholarships is to honor Arab-American students who enrolled in the 2018-2019 academic year; undergrad Juniors, Seniors and graduate students who are majoring in Journalism, Radio, Television, and/or Film and excelling in their field. Details here on applying, and please note that only hard-copy applications are accepted.


Here’s a complete list of journalism related scholarships that will be open next year. Many have deadlines in October, but you can get those applications done this summer! Go for this money!
