Summer 2020 Reporting Internship (Europe)

Deadline

About the Internship

The Wall Street Journal’s reporting internships in Europe are designed for students who intend to pursue a career in journalism. We are looking for interns to work in the London bureau, though there may be an opportunity for a posting in one of our European bureaus, such as Paris, Rome, Berlin or Brussels.

You will work closely with other reporters and editors to deliver prompt, accurate reporting of news. You will be expected to generate your own story ideas and follow those stories through to completion with supervision and guidance from an editor. You may also be asked to assist reporters and editors with story research and other tasks.

You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of our growing audience on various platforms and able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent writing and reporting skills are required. A demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus, though prior business/finance reporting experience is not required.

The screening process puts heavy emphasis on journalistic experience. You should have completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization, or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

Fluency in English and at least one additional European language is strongly preferred.

How to Apply

Please submit a resume, cover letter and no more than five published clips. Any clips published in a language other than English should be accompanied by a full English translation. Only complete applications will be considered. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1, 2019.

If you have a beat or location preference, please indicate your top choices in your cover letter. Assignments may include:

  • In London: markets/finance, corporate, energy, world, U.K. news

  • In Paris: corporate, world and French political/economic news

  • In Brussels: corporate, regulatory and European political news

Timing

Summer internships take place between June and September, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.

Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by late January.

Will I Be Paid?
