About Mike Chesnick

Mike Chesnick is the school's program coordinator for outreach, heading up alumni relations, event coordination, social media and high school recruitment. He is a 1984 UA Journalism graduate, received his Masters in English Education in 1988 from UA and has taught feature writing and advanced reporting as a UA Journalism adjunct. He also was a reporter and sports writer for the Arizona Daily Wildcat.

Chesnick spent 10 years as sports editor at the Tucson Citizen, where his staff received numerous national Top 10 Daily Section awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors. He began his newspaper career under the late J.G. Carlton at Tucson's Catalina High School and worked for the Citizen as a reporter, sports writer, high school sports editor and news editor until 1990, with a short stint at the Mesa Tribune.

He worked as a news design editor at USA Today for five years and was a senior assistant city editor at the Citizen before taking over as sports editor. He spent the last five-plus years as a copy editor at the Arizona Daily Star. Chesnick, who student-taught at Catalina, also was a substitute teacher at Salpointe Catholic High, a writing coach for the Wildcat and contributing editor for the UA Visitor Guide.
