NAHJ, established nationally in 1984, is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Hispanics in the news industry, says its Web site. Membership in the NAHJ University of Arizona Student Chapter is open to any students and faculty members at the university. For more information, contact Professor Kevin Kemper, diversitiy initiaties coordinator, in the journalism school.
Every other January, the UA Journalism School hosts student journalists from around the country for the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. One reason the UA was selected to host the prestigious institute was due to its active NAHJ chapter. For more information on the institute, contact Professor Nancy Sharkey.
