Through extensive hands-on experiences students in Jour 490C - Arizona Cat's Eye will learn how to write, report, shoot, produce, and edit hard news and feature stories for broadcast. The best stories of the semester will air as part of a news magazine of the same name on Arizona Public Media.

The course aims to strengthen students writing and reporting skills for electronic news media and introduce them to field and video production. They also will develop their interest and understanding of sound and ethical broadcast journalism practices and become familiar with the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and history especially as they relate to reporting from a border community like Tucson.

The class functions like a TV newsroom with students serving as reporters, assignment editors, producers and videographers. Professors act as news directors and coaches.
