NBCU Academy Visit

Director of Strategic Partnerships at NBCU Academy Sandy Sharp will visit the University of Arizona School of Journalism.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, The University of Arizona School of Journalism was named one of the newest members of the NBCU Academy, an award-winning journalism training program that builds a pipeline from classrooms to the newsroom. Director Sandy Sharp's visit is the first of many visits the NBCU Academy partnership will facilitate for our students.

 

Sandy Sharp's Biography: In 2021 Sharp joined NBCU as Director of Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives. Her role was born from the company’s 50/50 Challenge to increase diversity in newsroom around the world, Sharp oversees the partnerships and expanding the presence and impact of NBCU Academy.

 

Sharp started her career covering sports at KFAN Radio in Minneapolis and other small markets before helping launch the Fox Sports Regional Network in Denver, CO where she covered professional, college and local sports. Sharp was the Denver Nuggets pre-game show host, sideline reporter and weekend anchor before holding a similar role at FSN South.

 

After starting her family, Sharp served as a consultant and adjunct professor.  Her clients included sports organizations and coaches seeking professional development and organizational consultation. In 2018 Sharp join the Wharton Management & Technology Program where she worked with students and early career professionals launching their careers in business, technology and engineering.

 

Sharp lettered four years for the University of Missouri women’s basketball team where she earned a degree in Journalism (Broadcast) She is the first student athlete to graduate from the broadcast sequence of the J-School and the first black and female sports broadcaster to graduate from the program. A lifelong learner, Sharp is a certified executive coach and earned an MBA-University of Alabama-Birmingham and Master of Philosophy (Organizational Dynamics)-University of Pennsylvania.

 

Sharp is an active member in several organizations: WISE (Women in Sports and Events), Junior Achievement, Color Comm, ICF (International Coaching Federation), MIR Ventures (Advisors), Affinity Credit Union Foundation (Board Member) and National Association of Black Journalist
