Becoming a Journalism Major

Students who wish to pursue the Journalism Major can declare the premajor by making an appointment with the adviser here. Students have a two year (4 semester) time limit to complete all of the pre-major requirements and advance into the Journalism major. Click here for a map to the Marshall Building.

1. Complete two semesters of first-year English Composition with a grade of B or better in each semester. Composition courses are ENGL 101 and 102, 103H and 104H, 107 and 108, or 109H (one semester course combined with AP credit). 

2. Complete one semester of University-level Math with a grade of C or better. (The requirement is met with UA MATH 105 Math in Modern Society, or MATH 112 College Algebra Concepts and Applications or any higher level course.)

3. Earn a minimum 2.5 overall GPA including those courses underway in the semester you make application for the major.

4. Pass JOUR 105 with a C or better.
