About the Fellowships
We offer eight-month-long fellowships focused on reporting, video, gadgets, fact-checking, and photography. All jobs are located at WIRED’s editorial headquarters in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood and pay $20/hour for 35 hours of work per week.
Applicants must be pursuing journalism as a career and have experience working in a deadline-oriented environment. You should also be enthusiastic, be highly organized, and have a demonstrable interest in technology. Our fellowships are full time and therefore not appropriate for matriculated students.
This position is best suited to a recent graduate of a college or graduate program in journalism. Responsibilities include pitching story ideas, assisting on shoots, transcribing interviews, helping producers with research, shooting video, and editing when necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements
An ideal candidate is someone who possesses the following:
- Creativity, curiosity, eager, smart, and deeply passionate about video journalism
- Prior experience in video journalism at the news or online media publication
- Edit with Adobe Premiere Pro
- Shoot confidently with professional cameras (experience using Sony FS7 is a plus)
- Experience with pitching, researching, scouting shoot locations, interviewing sources, and scripting stories.
Benefits & Compensations
- The pay: $20 per hour, 35 hours per week.
- The hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Fellows are eligible for sick days and health care benefits.
- The employer does not sponsor visas for this position.
