About the Fellowships
We offer eight-month-long fellowships focused on reporting, video, gadgets, fact-checking, and photography. All jobs are located at WIRED’s editorial headquarters in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood and pay $20/hour for 35 hours of work per week.
Applicants must be pursuing journalism as a career and have experience working in a deadline-oriented environment. You should also be enthusiastic, be highly organized, and have a demonstrable interest in technology. Our fellowships are full time and therefore not appropriate for matriculated students.
The primary duty is checking the accuracy of print and web content. In this capacity, the research fellow works closely with senior editors, other fact-checkers, copy editors, designers, photo editors, and writers. Other responsibilities include Nexis searches and some administrative tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements
An ideal candidate is someone who possesses the following:
- Great reporting skills and supreme attention to detail
- Prior fact-checking or professional reporting experience
- Demonstrable knowledge of at least two of the following subject areas: culture, technology, science, and business.
Benefits & Compensations
- The pay: $20 per hour, 35 hours per week.
- The hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Fellows are eligible for sick days and health care benefits.
- The employer does not sponsor visas for this position.
