Areas of interest: Intraethnic identity boundaries, diasporas, media, and culture; journalism, patriarchy, and sexual violence; bilingualism; Chicanx and Latinx mediascapes; decolonial theory; documentary storytelling as liberatory practice; and representation of marginalized communities in multicultural societies.
Undergrad Degree: B.A. in Gender & Women’s Studies, B.A. in Psychology, and a minor in Spanish, University of Arizona.
Background/goals: My intentions and aspirations in pursuing the Journalism Studies MA degree with a global studies specialty, consists of gaining the necessary skills to pursue a PhD, publish peer-reviewed research, craft media material that can empower, liberate, and transform intersectional justice, and eventually become a professor.
Why UA: I loved my UA experience as an undergraduate student, and I felt that this institution, this particular program, and continuing to live in Tucson was my next step in higher education.
