Dual M.A. Bilingual Journalism / Latin American Studies

This dual-degree will serve students who want an immersive experience in bilingual journalism working as professional journalists and/or researchers in Latin America, or covering Latino issues in the United States. This program provides the basic bilingual and multimedia skills and knowledge needed to understand bilingual journalism as practiced in the United States, amplified by a greater understanding of the issues affecting Latin America today. Graduates will acquire a robust set of skills in both Spanish and English that will translate into a significant competitive edge in the professional and academic workplace.

Doble Titulación Maestría en Periodismo Bilingüe / Estudios Latinoamericanos

Esta doble titulación servirá a los estudiantes que deseen una experiencia de inmersión en el periodismo global bilingüe trabajando como periodistas y/o investigadores profesionales en América Latina, o cubriendo temas sobre latinos en Estados Unidos. Este innovador programa proporciona las habilidades y conocimientos lingüísticos y multimedia necesarios para comprender el periodismo bilingüe tal como se practica en los Estados Unidos, ampliado por una mayor comprensión de los problemas que afectan a América Latina en la actualidad. Los graduados de este programa adquirirán un sólido conjunto de habilidades tanto en español como en inglés que se traducirán en una importante ventaja competitiva en el lugar de trabajo profesional y académico.

  • BJP 512 Covering Latinx Affairs 1: Bilingual Multimedia Reporting (3 units) 
  • BJP 513 Covering Latinx Affairs II: Bilingual Multimedia Reporting (3 units) 
  • JOUR 593 Internship (bilingual) or JOUR 909 Master’s Project (3 units)

  • Regional studies – Central America, Brazil, Mexico, Southern Cone
  • Thematic studies – Borders of the Americas and Immigration, Environment and Development, History and Culture, Gender, Power, and Inequality
  • Disciplinary studies – Anthropology, Geography and Regional Development, History, Latin American Literature (Spanish and Portuguese)
