Biographies

Samara Klar

Samara Klar is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona School of Government and Public Policy. She studies how individuals’ personal identities and social surroundings influence their political attitudes and behavior. Most often, she uses experimental methods (in and outside the lab), surveys, and other statistical tools. Dr. Klar received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University and also hold degrees in political science from Columbia University and McGill University.

Her book Independent Politics (co-authored with Yanna Krupnikov) was published by Cambridge University Press in 2016 and her research appears in lots of different journals in political science, including the American Journal of Political ScienceThe Journal of PoliticsPolitical PsychologyPublic Opinion Quarterly, and many others. This work has received several different awards from the American Political Science Association, the Midwest Political Science Association, and the American Association for Public Opinion Research. Dr. Klar’s research is supported by awards and grants from the National Science Foundation, Time-sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences, the Social Science Research Council, and other organizations.  She founded the website www.WomenAlsoKnowStuff.com, which promotes work by women in political science and she has provided expert consulting on public opinion and political communication.

Christopher Conover

Christopher Conover, host of Arizona Public Media’s, The Buzz joined AZPM in January of 2005. Conover’s main beats are politics and the military. He has more than 30 years of experience covering the Florida and Arizona legislatures for both television and radio. Conover is no stranger to public broadcasting. Before moving to Tucson, he worked for WFSU-TV/The Florida Channel. He anchored a weekly news magazine and provided daily legislative coverage for television and radio, and also produced half-hour television documentaries. Before moving to public television, he worked for Florida Public Radio for seven years as a reporter and news director. Conover has won numerous journalism awards for his news documentaries, feature stories, deadline reporting and investigative reporting. He has been recognized with a national Edward R. Murrow Award, a National Society of Professional Journalists award, four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, ten regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, a RIAS-Berlin Commission award for coverage of immigration, numerous awards from the Associated Press, and six Emmy nominations. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. The Buzz airs Fridays at 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. on NPR 89.1.
