Enriquez wins spring 2022 Gyorke Award

Teressa Enriquez won the spring 2022 Drew Gyorke Memorial Photojournalism Award for her image of  a person taking a drink in a restaurant kitchen. 

Payton Rutkowski took second place for her photo of a woman standing on a ladder to hang roses  in the run-up to Valentine's Day at Flora's Market Run while Gracie Sleeman came in third with a photo of a UA diver mid-air. 

 

The contest featured 12 student finalists from Professor Kim Newton’s JOUR 203 photography class at the University of Arizona School of Journalism. 

Drew Gyorke, an adventurer and aspiring photojournalist at UA, died his junior year in a May 2013 car accident.

The award, endowed by the Gyorke family, has recognized the best beginning photojournalism students since 2013. (Click HERE to see past winners.)

Enriquez will receive $200, with Rutkowski  getting $125 and Sleeman $75.
