Journalism Director Selected for Global Education Leadership Role
Professor Jan Lauren Boyles, director of the University of Arizona School of Journalism, has been elected to the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) Executive Committee. This organization is composed of more than 190 journalism and mass communication programs from colleges and universities, primarily in the U.S. and Canada.
Her three-year term as ASJMC’s Medium Program Representative will begin Oct. 1, 2026, and run through Sept. 30, 2029. In the role, Boyles will participate in leadership roles for both the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Annual Conference and the ASJMC Conference.
Boyles currently serves in several appointed capacities within AEJMC, including the body’s Nominations and Elections Committee and its Presidential Committee on Strategic Planning. She previously co-chaired the AEJMC Presidential Task Force on Undergraduate Research and Engagement and served on the organization’s Board of Directors.
Boyles joined the School of Journalism as its director in July 2025. She previously served as associate director and professor at Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. At the U of A, she continues her position as associate editor for Digital Journalism, which ranks as the #2 academic journal in communication worldwide (among 513 ranked journals in the field), according to the SCImago Journal Rank.
