Cristina Ramírez

Dr. Cristina D. Ramírez is Professor of English at the University of Arizona whose scholarship focuses on feminist rhetorical history, archival recovery, translation studies, Mexican American studies, and community storytelling. 

She is the author of three award-winning books, including A Story of Stories: The Texas Border Barrio Life and Writings of Doña Ramona González (Trinity University Press, 2024), which received the 2025 Willa Literary Award for Scholarly Nonfiction from Women Writing the West and other national honors. 

Her research and public humanities work center on recovering the voices of Mexican and Mexican American women and preserving community histories through archival research, translation, and digital storytelling. 

In Fall 2026, she was appointed Visiting Professor with the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores (ENES) Unidad León, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, leading Proyecto Abuela: Voces de Herencia, a bilingual initiative in León and San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, that teaches students to recover, document, translate, and curate family and community histories. 

Through her teaching, writing, and international collaborations, Ramírez advances the preservation of intergenerational cultural memory while mentoring students and communities on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
